  • About Us

The committee of St Oliver Plunkett FC want to thank everyone who contributed to make our recent Night at the Races so successful. Organisers Marty Fegan and Pat Cavanagh did a fantastic job and special mention to Brendan Meighan who secured a lot of prizes for the night. The club made over £2,000 after making a donation to the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice and these events are now an integral part of the clubs existence trying to support 22 sides every week. Thanks to all our players, coaches and supporters for making it a profitable and worthwhile event.

    CLUB BACKGROUND

St Oliver Plunkett Football Club was founded in 1969 when the new community in Lenadoon attempted to redress the hurt and damage it, and particularly the young people, were experiencing during the outbreak of the troubles. Based in and organised from the youth club the club thrived for many years with the senior sides experiencing great success in the Northern Amateur Football League and the junior sides picking up numerous coveted trophies in underage leagues. Beyond the control of leaders and members alike the youth club sadly closed its doors in 1981 and placed the future of the football sides in real doubt. Against the odds, volunteers such as Jackie Maxwell continued, operating without a base, providing this much needed service for the children of Lenadoon. Today the club fields 22 sides each week in The NIBFA National Youth League,The South Belfast Youth League, The Irish Youth League,  The IFA Games Development Centres and The Northern Amateur Football League with a playing membership of over 300. The club have been the main user of Lenadoon Park for a number of years now and were the driving force behind the £400,000 capital build project to erect a changing pavilion beside the pitch. The club each week is reponsible for the set up of 44 separate coaching/training evenings using various venues within the Belfast area.
